Adopting a child from another country
Information and support for adopting a child from another country
Adopting from overseas is called intercountry adoption. This can take a long time and often costs thousands of pounds.
Many countries have now closed their borders and no longer allow this type of adoption.
What to consider
Before choosing this route, think about why you want to adopt from another country. If it’s to reflect your family’s heritage, there are children here in England who need loving families too.
Who carries out the assessment
We do not do assessments for intercountry adoption ourselves.
Instead, we work with Coram IAC, a specialist agency for international adoption. They will charge a fee for their services.
Who to contact
